Eiken Foundation of Japan
Nihon Eigo Kentei Kyokai, or the Eiken Foundation of Japan, is a public-interest incorporated foundation established in 1963 and based in Tokyo, Japan.
Eiken produces and administers English-proficiency tests with the backing of the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) and in cooperation with Japanese prefectural and local boards of education, public and private schools, and other leading testing bodies.
IELTS has been administered and conducted jointly by the Eiken Foundation of Japan and the British Council in Japan since April 2010. The number of examinees has increased gradually since then, and 36,000 people took IELTS, the highest number ever recorded, in 2015. This is because we make full use of the Eiken Foundation of Japan’s network to set up new exam stations in local regions and make use of effective public relations. There is also a preference in Japan to take examinations using a pen and paper in examinees’ local areas.-
