British Council Computer-Delivered IELTS test

About IELTS on computer

If you choose to take computer-delivered IELTS, you will take the Listening, Reading and Writing test using a computer. All aspects of the test are identical to paper-based IELTS, including question types, content, level of difficulty, and marking. 

Benefits of taking computer-delivered IELTS include:

  • Faster results – your IELTS results will be available 5-7 days after the test
  • More test sessions – test sessions available throughout the week 
  • More Speaking test timeslots - speaking timeslots available on the same day
  • Last-minute test registration – registration will only close 4 days before the test date, subject to seats availability 
  • Marking – Reading and Listening sections will be auto-marked by computers while the Speaking test will remain to be graded by a trained IELTS examiner 
  • Listening test - headphones will be provided.

CDI workshop

The British Council organises weekly computer-delivered IELTS workshops to help you familiarise with the test format and experience the test day flow at our real test sites in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh city. The workshop is organised weekly on Thursday in Hanoi and Monday afternoon or Wednesday evening in HCMC.

CDI familiarisation videos and practice tests

The Listening and Reading question types for computer-delivered IELTS are the same as in the paper-based test. 

Any of these question types may appear in any parts of the test. Answer Keys and transcripts of the recordings are also provided for you to check your answers. For Writing skill, Sample responses with band scores and examiner comments are also provided.
